Co-Founder of Workneting and experienced Business Strategist helping people who want to success by expanding their business network.

I am an introvert, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t be a great networker.

 

I am an INTP.  At least that's what my Myers Briggs profile says that I am.  Lisa, with her formal education in psychology and communications can tell you exactly what that means.  What it meant to me was that I should not be a salesperson. But there I was - in my new position at 30 years of age. I had just started my career 3 years earlier in the same company as a service person and that fit me just fine.

 

On my very first day at a "real job" as a client service representative at IMS Health, my new boss told me that we were going to Richards in Memphis the following week.. I asked "who's Richard?" He said "it's Richards, the company.  They're one of our biggest clients."   I was informed that he scheduled me to deliver a 3-day training of our services and teach them how to program our system - and my new boss was also going to sit in on the training. Ugh!

The problem was that I knew nothing about the services or the programming language that I was to train. I spent the entire week sitting with people within the company.  I reached out to nearly everyone at IMS for help and, thank goodness, they were willing to help me.  The were my first business network but far from my last. I vowed to repay them with my time and consideration in the future for their help. I made it through that training in Memphis and prospered in my new role.

 

My career progressed rapidly after that as I rose to become a divisional Vice President in 7 years at IMS Health.  I moved on to other senior executive roles at PRA Health Sciences and AmerisourceBergen.

 

I attribute much of my success to my business network.  It helped me close business deals, find useful insights, and developed me as a professional and leader.

 

In 2010, I wrote the book Selling Big: Growing your Business within Large Companies which highlights how to use your business network for account management.

 

We developed Workneting to help all professionals and companies learn how to build and use their business networks for success.   The two most important business assets that you have are your time and your business network.
